Multiple lanes on SR-64 had to be shut down after a minivan crashed into the rear of a construction trailer on the morning of Friday, March 6.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the construction trailer was being towed that morning on SR-64 E near Interstate 75. It’s unclear what caused the minivan to collide with the trailer, and the driver’s condition was not immediately clear, but the van rear-ended the trailer at a relatively high speed. Paramedics and firefighters were called out to the scene immediately to treat the driver.
There was no other information about injuries to any other parties.
Drivers expected to pay attention to their surroundings
All drivers are expected to pay attention to their surroundings and look for potential hazards while out on the road, especially when in construction zones or near large vehicles and trailers without much visibility. A failure to obey the rules of the road could result in a driver being considered liable in any personal injury claim resulting from the accident.
Be especially sure to follow all posted signage and instructions in and around construction zones, and to keep an eye out for workers or trucks entering/leaving the construction site. These workers are already putting themselves at high risk without drivers deciding to flout the posted rules in the area.
