An accident on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade County on June 14 claimed the life of a motorcyclist and left two others injured. According to police officers, the crash involved a car and two motorcycles that were traveling in the southbound lanes of the interstate. The two motorcyclists were side by side when they reportedly collided, throwing the riders from their bikes.
A motorist who witnessed the accident attempted to stop her car to help, but was caught in the debris from the crash. She briefly lost control of her vehicle and ran over the leg of one of the riders. One of the riders was declared dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the motor vehicle did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
The hazards of motorcycle accidents
Due to the lack of protection afforded to riders compared to the drivers and passengers of other types of vehicles, motorcyclists tend to suffer very serious injuries when accidents occur. Although safety gear like helmets and protective clothing may help, crashes at high speeds are particularly dangerous. The fact that the motorcyclists in this recent crash were on an interstate highway means they were likely traveling at high rates of speed.
It’s important for both motorcyclists and other drivers to be careful to help avoid serious accidents. If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash, contact a skilled Florida personal injury lawyer at Goldman, Babboni, Fernandez, Murphy & Walsh right away.
