A man from South Florida died from injurie after being struck by back-to-back vehicles that left the scene of the accident.
The 35-year-old Boyton Beach man died approximately two hours after being found by a passerby on the road at approximately 4:30 a.m. The timing of the first collision was unclear.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the man was struck by a vehicle and survived. As he was getting back to his feet he was hit by another vehicle. Both vehicles drove away from the scene without providing any assistance. The victim fell several times after the accident and spent an unknown time in the roadway, crawling on the ground and attempting to orient himself before being struck by the second vehicle.
Hit-and-run accidents have serious consequences
Drivers who leave the scene of an accident face some serious potential consequences for their actions. At the very least, a hit-and-run accident that causes only property damage can result in misdemeanor charges. A hit-and-run that results in injury or death can result in felony charges, and if convicted the driver could face years in prison along with massive fines.
All drivers are responsible for staying at the accident site to provide assistance and exchange information while waiting for police or medical responders to arrive.
