A Canadian dentist vacationing in Manatee County was killed on the morning of November 29 when he was involved in a collision with a van.
The 68-year-old dentist was taking his daily ride on a Port Harbour Parkway bike path near Cape Harbour Loop when he was hit by a minivan whose driver attempted to make a right turn in front of the bike at about 7:30 a.m. The minivan was being driven by a 53-year-old Bradenton man.
The bicyclist was wearing a helmet and received treatment at Blake Medical Center, but did not survive his injuries. The minivan driver faces charges of “failure to use due care toward a bicyclist.”
The victim was a semi-retired dental surgeon from Quebec who regularly vacationed in the Heritage Harbour area. He and his wife were in the area for a five-week vacation with a group of friends.
